It All Started When…

Erik was in the 2nd grade, he would go on bike rides around the neighborhood with his dad after work. They were living in an un-zoned neighborhood in Asunción, Paraguay at the time and there was a myriad of architecture under construction. South America didn’t have much in the way of construction site security back then and they were able to explore around the construction sites to their hearts content and delight. Reveling in the obscure architecture that was going to be someone’s home someday. Erik savored every bit of it, and when he would get home, he would break out the construction paper and color pencils and start off designing some crazy houses that people might someday live in.

With over a quarter century’s worth of post-graduate professional practice, as a graduate on the cusp of technology changes in the 90’s, Erik Hagen is in a unique position of being a high level architect that can draft using Revit, AutoCAD or hand. This has provided Erik the opportunity to fall into active Managing Principal Architect roles.

Erik has a proven track record of producing projects on-time and within budget; being extremely diligent in his attention to detail. He has produced millions of square feet and billions of dollars of development over the course of his career. Maintaining an overarching architectural knowledge that has been an invaluable resource to the architectural and client community.

Half of Erik’s career has been in Commercial Architecture; Offices, Retail, Mid-Rise, High-Rise, Mixed-Use and Land-Use Planning. With an emphasis over the last 15 plus years within State University systems producing Student Housing, Dining Halls, Laboratories, Conferencing Centers and Staff Offices. Since completing His architectural internship in the late 90’s, Erik has overseen all aspects of an architectural practice and projects, from inception to completion.

Working within a State University system is no ordinary architectural job. It’s a design/build, fast-track, phased, team oriented environment acting as contractor and client all in one. Erik’s roles have been Jack-of-All-Trades that requires knowledge about various types of construction to local zoning codes and government regulatory mandated ADA approvals; all within a challenging & fast-paced environment.

Erik Hagen is now proud to announce that he has finally opened his own practice in Boise, Idaho where he can continue to work his personal design flair, professional outreach and continual transparent client communication with greater involvement and oversight of all aspects of the project & practice.  Erik is deeply rooted in the architectural community of the Western United States serving as Pacific as well as Western Mountain AIA Emerging Professional Regional Liaison twice.  In fact, he was the instigator to get the AIA branding changed from ‘Young Architect’ to ‘Emerging Professional’. With an emphasis on local jurisdictions in Los Angeles, Seattle, Albuquerque & Boise, Erik looks forward to bringing his overarching experience, clean, simple design to a new plain to continue making Boise a great place to live, work & play.

Growing up in Calgary, Alberta, having attended Montana State University in Bozeman, living in Seattle, Albuquerque and Los Angeles, Erik love’s living in the Pacific Western Mountain region where he can be closer to nature to ski, bike, hike and camp with friends and spend more time with his family.  He is really looking forward to when this Pandemic is over and can finally go out to a live music show, the Tree Fort festival, the summer music on the plaza and tasting local eateries and attending the brewery festivals.
